PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

LOCATION

Kalamazoo – We are a 3-college town with abundant outdoor activities, including numerous lakes and trails, award-winning breweries, and a philanthropic community famous for The Kalamazoo Promise, which provides free college tuition. We are a short drive to Lake Michigan, and halfway between Chicago and Detroit.

CURRICULUM
  • 13 rotations / block system per year Individualized curriculum tailored to each resident's career goals and aligned with ACGME requirements

  • Didactics include Morning Report M-Th 7:30-8:00 a.m., Friday Grand Rounds 8-9:00 a.m., Friday dedicated academic half day, and bimonthly hands-on Simulation training.

DIVERSITY INITIATIVES
  • We use a holistic recruitment, selection, and ranking process, seeking a diverse residency program to reflect the patient population that we serve in our community.

  • 4th year electives to medical students from groups typically underrepresented in medicine

  • Annual faculty and resident education is focused on unconscious bias, as well as health equity, diversity, and cultural sensitivity

  • WMed acts not only on the side of justice; our vision is to bring support and healing to all people living in Southwest Michigan.
