PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS
SIU Pediatrics offers a robust and well-rounded experience with ample pediatric subspecialist and pathology exposure in a supportive and collaborative environment.
HSHS St. John’s Children’s Hospital is a regional referral center for central and southern Illinois with a newly renovated Level III Neonatal ICU, and busy Pediatric ICU, Intermediate-Care, General, and Emergency Services, and the only local Pediatric Trauma Center.
Our SIU Pediatrics Outpatient Clinic is the only academic clinic in our area and has level III certification as a Medical Home for both primary and subspecialty services.
We value our diverse resident, faculty, and staff that serve our diverse patient population.

LOCATION
Springfield is the capital city of Illinois, with a friendly, welcoming atmosphere, culturally and ethnically diverse with plenty of history, excellent cost-of-living, beautiful outdoor nature centers, parks, and activities, and a lively art and music scene.
Easy access to larger cities of St. Louis (90 miles) and Chicago (190 miles) with five daily trains traveling to both cities.
CURRICULUM
Close faculty-resident relationships allow for dedicated one-on-one coaching and mentoring for our trainees with emphasis on inter-professional collaboration, quality improvement, and advocacy.
13-Block schedule with reserved time for research, individualized electives, and education leave for conference attendance.
Protected didactic teaching one half-day per week with longitudinal QI, Research, and Simulation training.
